The Three Types of People in Your Life: Leaf, Branch, and Root

Nurturing Connections: Understanding the Leaf, Branch, and Root People in Your Life

Hello, I’m Kristi M. Estrada, LPC-S, NCC, a compassionate therapist dedicated to guiding you through life’s relationships with care and insight. In life, we encounter various individuals who leave an imprint on our hearts, each serving a unique purpose. Understanding these dynamics can help us navigate challenges, cherish meaningful bonds, and support attachment healing by addressing the attachment wounds that often shape our connections. In this blog, let’s explore the three types of people you may meet—Leaf, Branch, and Root—and how they influence your journey toward healing for attachment.

Leaf People: Fleeting Moments of Joy

Leaf people are like the fleeting beauty of an autumn day, drifting into our lives for a season with joy and color. They bring lightness, but their presence is temporary, often leaving when storms arise—sometimes deepening attachment wounds from past abandonments. While pleasant, they can’t be relied upon during life’s hardships, taking what they need before drifting away. I encourage you to approach leaf people with gentle caution, preserving your emotional energy for deeper bonds that foster attachment healing.

Branch People: Sturdy Support with Limits

Branch people, like strong limbs on a tree, offer reliable support and strength, standing by you through many seasons. They’re valuable companions, yet their limits become clear when life’s weight grows heavy, potentially stirring attachment wounds if expectations falter. They may step back during overwhelming challenges, needing space themselves. As your therapist, I invite you to appreciate their role, nurturing healing for attachment by setting realistic boundaries and valuing their presence without undue pressure.

Root People: The Foundation of Unwavering Love

Root people are the unsung heroes, the deep roots of a mighty tree, providing steadfast support no matter the circumstance—key to attachment healing. They love and nurture you quietly, even in your darkest moments, mending attachment wounds with their unwavering presence. These friends, family, or mentors remain through every season, offering a secure base for healing for attachment. Cherishing them is vital for cultivating lasting, meaningful connections.

Embracing Your Relational Journey

Understanding Leaf, Branch, and Root people empowers you to honor each relationship’s role in your life. While Leaf people bring fleeting joy and Branch people offer stability, Root people anchor you through life’s ups and downs, supporting healing for attachment. Not everyone is meant to stay, so avoid permanent decisions based on temporary bonds—those can deepen attachment wounds. Instead, nurture your Root connections, for they’ll stand by you with love.
