The Reunion That Taught Me What Resilience Really Is

There are moments that change you forever—not with fanfare or drama, but with a quiet exhale, a shift in the way your heart remembers.

For me, it happened in a living room where my feet met the carpet, and I stood still, swaying slightly, after a difficult conversation with someone I love. The chaos of blended family life buzzed around me, but my body asked me to pause. To feel. To return. And in that moment, I remembered something long buried:

I was once a little girl separated from her siblings, placed in foster care, holding the unbearable weight of silence and not knowing if we would ever find each other again.

Years passed. Life happened. I grew up. I became a mother. I became a therapist. And still, that ache lived in me—until one day, against all odds, we reunited.

It was tender. Awkward. Beautiful. And it reminded me that resilience isn’t loud—it’s a quiet, sacred returning.

Resilience Isn’t What I Was Taught

I used to believe resilience meant staying strong, keeping it together, and pushing forward no matter the cost. But real resilience—the kind I’ve found in my body, in my clients, and in those moments of reconnection—looks different.

It looks like:

  • Crying in the laundry room and still making dinner afterward.
  • Whispering “I miss you” after years of silence.
  • Placing a hand on your chest and feeling your heartbeat after feeling numb for too long.
  • Saying “yes” to your own healing, even when you’re terrified.

Resilience is not perfection.
It’s presence.
It’s breath.
It’s returning.

I Made Something for You

After that family reunion—and after years of holding others in their stories—I felt something inside me asking to be shared. Not as a therapist. Not as a teacher. But as a woman who’s lived through rupture and repair.

So I created The Resilience Grounding Journal.

It’s a 20-page, heart-led workbook filled with prompts, practices, and embodied reflections designed to help you meet your own resilience gently and honestly. It includes:

  • Grounding somatic exercises I used in motherhood, therapy sessions, and midnight breakdowns
  • Reflection prompts rooted in my journey through estrangement and reunion
  • Spaces for you to reconnect with the parts of you that feel forgotten, brave, or still healing
  • A closing blessing and invitation to stay connected in your own way

This journal isn’t a fix. It’s a companion. A mirror. A soft place to land when the world feels like too much.

You Are Already Rising

If you’re reading this, I want you to know:
There is nothing broken in you.
There are only parts of your story waiting to be held with kindness.

You don’t need to be perfect to be resilient.
You don’t need to have it all figured out to begin.
You just need a little space to remember who you are.

So take a breath.
Place your feet on the floor.
Sway if it feels good.

And if you’re ready, I’d love for you to explore the journal. Let it be a place where you write your own reunion. Not just with others, but with yourself.
