The Lie That You’re Too Much

If I had a dollar for every client who whispered through tears, “I just feel like I’m too much,” I’d have enough to build a hundred porches.
Too emotional. Too intense. Too opinionated. Too sensitive.
It’s not just a passing thought — it’s a shame identity. One that gets woven into the nervous system. One that makes us shrink before we speak, disconnect when we feel too deeply, and apologize just for having needs.
But what if that “too much-ness” is actually your truth? Your depth? Your vivid, radiant way of being alive?
In somatic therapy, we don’t try to erase that intensity. We honor it.
We learn to regulate our systems — not to mute who we are, but to create enough safety to show up fully.
You were never too much.
You were just right for a deeper kind of love.
This week’s Porch Prompt is:
What part of you still believes you have to shrink to be loved?
Sit with that voice, not as a critic to silence, but as a younger self to welcome home.
You don’t have to get smaller to belong. The porch was always built to hold all of you.
With love that doesn’t flinch,
Kristi
